According to reports from SiliconANGLE and TechCrunch, AegisAI has announced that it has raised $36 million in funding to combat the rapidly growing threat of AI-driven phishing attacks. Over the past year, the number of AI-generated phishing attacks has surged fivefold, and AegisAI's founders, Cy Khormaee and Ryan Luo, indicate that traditional employee training is no longer effective in stopping these attacks. AegisAI utilizes its own large language models to focus on protecting corporate inboxes, capable of identifying seemingly flawless phishing emails.
The technology developed by AegisAI analyzes the intent and identity behind each message, allowing it to catch attacks that traditional filters might miss. According to AegisAI's research, AI-generated phishing emails accounted for 2.8% of all phishing emails observed in early 2025, rising to 13.9% by the end of the year. These emails have a nearly double pass rate compared to human-written messages, with 73% of the attack emails coming from real accounts that had been quietly taken over by attackers. The new funding will be used to expand the number of defense agents and push towards the general availability of Vanguard, the company’s threat-hunting agent.
